SLE Support Packages

We have some very experienced SLEs who have put together 3 and 5 day support packages that, in our experience, meet the needs of schools that we have supported.

We hope these 'off the shelf' packages will assist you in evaluating a particular department, support the department leader in the writing of a development plan and give subject specific support and advice. Alternatively, you may benefit from a post-inspection package that will assist the senior leaders in prioritising and writing a development plan. We also have a behaviour and pastoral system support package so that leaders can work together to find solutions.

You can broker a package and follow the programmes detailed below.

EXAMPLE POST INSPECTION PACKAGE

Pre-visit

Analysis of inspection report and other supporting documentation.

Results analysis using external and internal data.

Initial meeting with headteacher and SLE team leader.

Day 1 & 2

Full JOINT teaching and learning review (lesson observations, work scrutiny, learning walks, pupil meetings) – this is done by pairing an SLE with a member of the SLT.

Start online pupil questionnaire to gather views.

Day 3

Pupil questionnaire feedback.

Core focus - English, maths and science SLEs to work with heads of department in core areas on curriculum and teaching and learning .

Day 4

Performance management, CPD and INSET - review.

Pastoral and behaviour systems, collaborative action planning with specialist SLE.

Follow-up meeting with SLT – school development plan.

Day 5

Review with core leaders. Action plans completed.

SLT planning meeting. Action plans completed.

Review of progress with headteacher – final look at SDP.

EXAMPLE FACULTY SUPPORT PACKAGE

Pre-visit

Analysis of departmental documentation and any internal reviews.

Results analysis using external and internal data.

Day 1 & 2

Tracking, assessment and intervention systems.

Review of department development plan.

Day 4

Teaching inset with all team.

Follow-up meeting with head of faculty and line manager on SLT – finalise development plan.

Day 5

Work scrutiny and feedback to teachers.

Lesson observations.

Review of progress with headteacher.

EXAMPLE PASTORAL SUPPORT PACKAGE

Pre-visit

Analysis of policies and any internal reviews.

Review of inspection report, attendance and exclusion information.

Initial meeting with headteacher and SLE team leader.

Day 1

Full JOINT pastoral review (learning walks, pupil meetings, support staff meeting) –SLE partnered with the SLT (pastoral leader).

Start online pupil questionnaire to gather views.

Day 2

Pupil questionnaire feedback.

Review of school development plan – actions agreed.

Reward and sanction systems, pupil premium support.

Day 3

Learning walks and review of actions.

Training / INSET provided for staff.

Review of progress with headteacher.
