Red Rose Teaching School Alliance - Bishop Rawstorne School Direct

Our Bishop Rawstorne ITT (Initial Teacher Training) Programme

As part of our continuous improvement cycle, we offer a bespoke School Direct programme.

With a close knit community of partner schools, who are all committed to supporting you in achieving the best possible outcomes throughout your training year, Red Rose Teaching School Alliance works collaboratively with the University of Cumbria, who support our Bishop Rawstorne School Direct programme and allow us to offer the masters level credits needed to secure the award of a PGCE. The School Direct programme offers you a wider variety of placement experiences and school based training.

The secondary schools that we are fortunate enough to offer as placement schools, apart from ourselves, for the 2019-2020 programme include: Penwortham Girls' High School, Balshaw's Church of England High School, St. Michael's Church of England High School, Lostock Hall Academy, Brownedge St Mary's Catholic High School and Byrchall High School.

Recruitment for September 2019 has commenced.

Application Process

Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy and the University provider will receive your application from UCAS after your references have been uploaded.  They will assess your suitability and then decide on potential applications.  If you are unsuccessful at this stage, the university will relay this decision via the UCAS track facility.

Successful applicants will be invited to Bishop Rawstorne for an interview.  The interview will include a subject knowledge presentation, subject knowledge audit, formal interview and a literacy test.

You will either be offered a conditional or unconditional place on our School Direct programme. All offers are conditional on successful completion of the Department for Education's professional skills test and subject to DBS and medical checks. Further conditions may include: completion of your degree, or production of original examination certificates, to name some examples.

Skills Tests

Applicants for initial teacher training (ITT) are required to have passed the skills tests before the start of the course. Applicants for courses that begin in the academic year 2019- 2020  will need to book to take the skills tests.

ITT providers will use the skills tests results to inform their decisions so applicants are strongly advised to prepare thoroughly for their tests prior to taking them.
